SCHOOL AND EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM PERFORMANCE
Since 1999, the state has issued School Performance Scores for public schools, which are based on student achievement data. To clearly communicate the quality of school performance to families and the public, Louisiana adopted letter grades (A-F). All schools with sufficient data receive school performance scores.
Starting in 2017, all publicly funded early childhood programs including early childhood centers, Head Start and pre-K will receive performance ratings detailing how well the program is preparing children for Kindergarten.
Alternative education schools serve students referred for long-term services and, beginning in 2019, are evaluated based on a formula that is more closely aligned to their unique mission. For elementary and middle schools, this score is based on students’ growth from the prior year. For high schools, this score also measures core academic credit accumulation, successful transition into the next school year, and how well schools are preparing students for college and a career.
2020-2021 Simulated School Performance Scores
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, BESE waived all of its policies related to the production of School Performance Scores and letter grades for the 2020-2021 school year. In their place, the Department is releasing simulated School Performance Scores, which are unofficial results that show what performance scores would have been in 2020-2021. While simulated School Performance Scores do use actual data that are verified by school systems, they are not official results and should not be considered comparable to other years. They are provided for informational and planning purposes only and should be interpreted with caution while also considering the many other factors that may have influenced them. Official letter grades, School and District Performance Scores, and intervention labels will be carried over from the 2018-2019 school year.

2020-2021 Early Childhood Performance Scores and Ratings
Due to the impact of COVID-19, BESE adopted flexibilities in publishing performance scores and ratings. The Department has published Performance Scores based on 2020-2021 data when these scores were higher than Performance Scores published in Fall 2020. In all other cases, the Department extended 2019-2020 Performance Scores.
