Resources Align with Plans to Support Every Child, Every Day in 2018-2019 School Year
BATON ROUGE, La. -- The 2018-2019 school year has arrived, and the Louisiana Department of Education has released a suite of free resources to help parents and educators ease the transition back to the classroom and support student learning. The resources align to the state's academic goals for the next year and beyond.
The 2018-2019 back-to-school resources include:
- A customizable Back-to-School Night Presentation that school leaders can use to provide parents with information on 2018-2019 academic goals, standards, and assessments that help to meet parent engagement requirements required by the federal Every Student Succeeds Act.
- Parent Back-to-School Guides that provides families with information and resources to support learning at home for the 2018-2019 school year. Guides are currently available for parents of students in grades 3-12, English learners, and students with disabilities, and translated versions are available in Spanish, Vietnamese and Arabic. A guide for parents of students in grades PK-2 will be released later this month.
"The Department is committed to providing all families and educators, including teachers, principals and school system leaders, with the support and guidance they need to continue raising the bar for students in Louisiana," said State Superintendent John White. "We look forward to another great school year."
The resources align with the Department's mission to ensure every child, every day, has access to a high quality education. This school year, for example, the state will award millions of dollars in
federal grants to struggling schools to implement tailored improvement plans; ensure school systems can identify and adopt top-tier instructional materials and
provide teachers with training on how to effectively use them; and for the first time, acknowledge growth as part of the
accountability system.
