LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ANNOUNCES FINALISTS FOR 2023 LOUISIANA TEACHER AND PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR

Overall State Winners to be Named at the Awards Gala in July 

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Education today announced the finalists for the 2023 Teacher and Principal of the Year awards during the 2022 Teacher Leader Summit. The 18 finalists are elementary, middle, and high school educators from school systems across the state

During the opening session at the 2022 Teacher Leader Summit, the 2022 Public Interest Fellowship recipient was named and other state-level honorees were recognized and celebrated. These honorees included the New Teacher of the Year Finalists, Early Childhood Teacher and Leader Finalists, Milken Educator Award recipients, and Louisiana’s Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching recipients. Annually, the Department, in partnership with Dream Teachers and the Louisiana Association of Principals, recognizes and celebrates some of the state’s most exceptional educators through the Teacher and Principal of the Year programs. These programs provide an opportunity to acknowledge those teachers and leaders who are making exceptional gains with students. Their commitment to student success exemplifies Louisiana’s education profession.

All Teacher and Principal of the Year finalists and semifinalists will be celebrated and honored at the 16th Annual Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Awards Gala, which will be held at the WWII Museum in New Orleans on the evening of July 30.
